Matthews
At the age of eight Stewart started
dancing.
At the age of eleven he won a scholarship
to the British Ballet Organisation in London.
At the age of fifteen he damaged his knees,
was on a walking stick for a year and was told never to dance again.
Never being one to give up, at the age of
seventeen Stewart danced professionally for the Birmingham Royal
Ballet and the Vienna Festival Ballet.
This was a short lived career as once again
the knees collapsed.
Also at the age of seventeen, he was offered
a teaching scholarship but refused it saying "If I can't do
it myself how could I possibly demonstrate to a class the correct
way to do it with frustrating myself."
This not being enough for Stewart he decided that, as he was told
never to dance EVER again he would instead try Kung-Fu (after all
that's not physical is it?) and trained for some years to obtain
quite a proficiency. But alas and alack, whilst training to teach
the past came flooding back and the Doctor shook his head once again.
Whilst dancing Stewart was always interested
in the performance aspect which naturally led him towards acting.
While completing a B.A (Hons) in Theatre
Studies and Philosophy, Stewart met David Beecroft, Justin Sage-Passant
and Baz Barrett… Screwed and Clued Theatre Co. was formed.
Stewart has been involved in all but one
of Screwed and Clued's shows as a co -writer/devisor/director and
performer. Including Shooting up Shakespeare, Trench, Grimm Tales,
Fitch and Cabbage, EN-GER-LAND and more recently Pinocchio.
Stewart met Natalie at the 2003 Ottawa Fringe.
Touring with Pinocchio in 2004, a marriage proposal and many hours
of immigration paperwork later… thoughts of Enigma Productions
started to form.
He is 28 years old and five foot three.
